The LBD is the odds-on favourite this year but do remember that black doesn't always make the most of us. When you put on your party wear you want to feel instantly fabulous. Good evening wear colours this season are:
Fuchsia Ultra striking and particularly alluring in a shiny fabric, this shade is ideal for cool skin tones (because this pink is blue-based) some 'Deep' (dark hair and eyes) or 'Clear' (dark hair and bright eyes) colourings if they have cool skin tones.
What Fuchsia says about you: You're adventurous, fun, the life and soul of the party!
Red With a good range of shades in this colour to choose from you should find a red for you. Think about your skin tone: cool reds for cool skins, warmer reds for warm skins. This season red looks great in velvet.
What Red says about you: You're confident and outgoing and comfortable in your own skin
Purple Because it has both cool and warm tones (it mixes blue and yellow) this shade works for everyone. The rich, darker tones are best suited to 'Deep' colourings, brighter shades for the 'Clears' and the softer and lighter tones for the 'Softs' (dark to mid blonde hair, tonal look) and 'Lights' (light blonde light eyes and skin) colourings such as violet and light periwinkle respectively. For the evening purple looks good in silk, shimmer effects and velvet.
What purple says about you: You're creative and sociable and a bit mysterious
Midnight Blue and Light Navy Navy is a softer alternative to black with the midnight shades working best on 'Deeps', 'Clears' and 'Cools' (greying or white hair and pinkish skin tones). 'Warms '(golden skin tone, red tones in the hair), 'Softs' and 'Lights' look best in light navy. For evening navy works well in satin or velvet. It can look sexy and feminine, but this shade has a classier feel to it.
What navy says about you: You're a classic, classy lady that prefers to be a little understated
Metallics With sequins and sparkle everywhere you can't avoid metallics and they lighten up every outfit. Silver works best with cool skin tones and gold complements warm skin tones. If you want to mix them up then go for it but wear more of the metal that suits you.
What metallics say about you: You're a bit of a magpie and a romantic and you love the opportunity to shine at every occasion!
If you're struggling to pull your party outfits together then why not call in the expert.

We can't resist the opportunity at this time of year to embellish our look with sparkle and detail. What you choose and how you wear will make or break your outfit.
Key pieces this season are: statement necklaces and bangles; dangly earrings; dazzling rings; sparkling brooches or big flowers.
Consider: Size of the jewellery in comparison to your scale. If you are petite then a huge collar style necklace will probably be OTT. Dainty jewellery on a larger scale body will be lost.
Where you need adornment, i.e if your top or dress has some striking detail across the chest you don't need a brooch or necklace to add detail to that area; opt for a bangle instead.
Unless you are deliberately creating the layers of jewellery look with several bracelets and necklaces worn at the same time, choose either one statement piece that really sets off your outfit or a few pieces that complement your look without being overpowering. |
